Today I’m going to share a simple and easy to make Hobo Pie Iron Pizza Camping Recipe.
If you’ve never enjoyed a pie iron pizza before, this is definitely a fun and simple recipe for the campfire you will want to try!
Campfire pizzas are fun and easy to make – it’s an activity all in of itself that the whole family will enjoy!
How to Make Hobo Pizza With a Pie Iron
To make these pizzas, all you need is plain white bread, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and butter.
And oh, yes…a pie iron and a campfire!
You can also add your favorite pizza toppings if you want – pepperoni, salami, pineapple and ham, peppers, onions, olives – whatever you like on pizza will work in this recipe as a topping!
Step 1: Make The Pizza Sandwiches
The first thing to do is prepare your sandwiches. We usually use the whole loaf of bread, but we’re also usually feeding a family of 5. Did I mention one of those 5 people is a teenage boy?
To make the sandwiches all you need to do is spread some sauce on one side of the bread, top with cheese, top with your favorite toppings and then put a slice of bread on the top.
Step 2. Heat Up the Pie Iron
You want your pie iron to be nice and hot when you start cooking.
When the pie iron is hot, you will want to put some butter inside of the iron so that the pizzas won’t stick.
Most pie irons are cast iron, so if your pie iron is already well seasoned you may not need as much butter.
Step 3: Cook the Pizzas!
Once the butter is melted, place your sandwiches in the pie iron and let it cook for 2-3 minutes each side.
Depending on the heat and the size of your fire, this may take a little bit longer or a little bit shorter. It’s a good idea to check both sides frequently.
This is a classic favorite campfire hobo pie iron recipe for our family so I hope you and your family and friends also enjoy it!
